Therapeutic Medical Massage and Orthopedic Assessment

Russo Massage in Cary NC, specializes in therapeutic and orthopedic massage. Therapeutic massage is primarily used to treat specific regions of chronic pain, i.e., neck, shoulders, back, abdomen/upper chest, hips/glutes, upper and lower extremities. As a result of the massage therapist's assessment based on the client's input of how their body feels and what they notice, the and use a variety of precise massage strokes that may be a combination/blend of the techniques used in deep tissue/myofascial release, neuromuscular, trigger point therapy, and passive Joint Mobilization stretches in an effort to relieve muscle aches and pains and/or to remove toxins in the muscles that result in knots or fibrous muscle tissue. The goal of the treatment plan and techniques used should result in improvement over a period of time.

Myofascial Release Massage (Deep Tissue)

For relief of muscle aches and pain. The massage therapist applies deeper pressure strokes that will specifically address individual muscles. Used to relax and stretch the muscles, fascia (connective tissue), and related structures. Relieves deep muscle aches and pains. NOTE: Good bodywork is not about mashing — a good massage therapist will ask you to provide feedback on your tolerance for the amount of pressure used. The proper amount of pressure will prove to be effective. (A good bodywork session should not be a painful experience)

Neuromuscular Trigger Point Therapy (NMTrP)

Trigger Points result in muscles which have been traumatized by accidents, injuries, occupational stress, and overuse. Once a Trigger Point develops, it can remain for life unless properly treated. Pressure is applied to the "trigger points"," (exquisite tender points where the muscles have been damaged) to alleviate muscle spasms and pain. When pressure is applied to the Trigger Point, the chemical/pressure cycle is interrupted, which helps to stop the contraction and the pain in the muscle.

Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization = IASTM — utilizes a hand tool to treat soft tissue (fascia, muscles, tendons, ligaments), that has been injured, strained, sprained, overused, has adhesions or scar tissue that results in pain. IASTM will relieve pain and increase range of motion.

Kinesio Taping

The Kinesio Taping method was founded by Dr. Kenzo Kase over 30 years ago. It is used from initial injury from acute to sub-acute, chronic to rehabilitation stages of clinical presentations. It is designed to facilitate the body's natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body's range of motion as well as providing extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered within the clinical setting. Kinesio tape is Latex-free and can be worn for several days. It is safe for all age groups, from pediatric to geriatric, and successfully treats a variety of orthopedic, neuromuscular, neurological and other medical conditions.
